DISCRETE TIME SYSTEMS: Mario Alberto Jordán
Discrete-Time Systems comprehend an important and broad research field. The consolidation of digital-based computational means in the present, pushes a technological tool into the field with a tremendous impact in areas like Control, Signal Processing, Communications, System Modelling and related Applications. This book attempts to give a scope in the wide area of Discrete-Time Systems. Their contents are grouped conveniently in sections according to significant areas, namely Filtering, Fixed and Adaptive Control Systems, Stability Problems and Miscellaneous Applications. We think that the contribution of the book enlarges the field of the Discrete-Time Systems with signification in the present state-of-the-art. Despite the vertiginous advance in the field, we also believe that the topics described here allow us also to look through some main tendencies in the next years in the research area.

ADVANCES IN PID CONTROL: Valery D. Yurkevich
Since the foundation and up to the current state-of-the-art in control engineering, the problems of PID control steadily attract great attention of numerous researchers and remain inexhaustible source of new ideas for process of control system design and industrial applications. PID control effectiveness is usually caused by the nature of dynamical processes, conditioned that the majority of the industrial dynamical processes are well described by simple dynamic model of the first or second order. The efficacy of PID controllers vastly falls in case of complicated dynamics, nonlinearities, and varying parameters of the plant. This gives a pulse to further researches in the field of PID control. Consequently, the problems of advanced PID control system design methodologies, rules of adaptive PID control, self-tuning procedures, and particularly robustness and transient performance for nonlinear systems, still remain as the areas of the lively interests for many scientists and researchers at the present time. The recent research results presented in this book provide new ideas for improved performance of PID control applications.
ADAPTIVE FILTERING: Lino Garcia
Adaptive filtering is useful in any application where the signals or the modeled system vary over time. The configuration of the system and, in particular, the position where the adaptive processor is placed generate different areas or application fields such as prediction, system identification and modeling, equalization, cancellation of interference, etc., which are very important in many disciplines such as control systems, communications, signal processing, acoustics, voice, sound and image, etc. The book consists of noise and echo cancellation, medical applications, communications systems and others hardly joined by their heterogeneity. Each application is a case study with rigor that shows weakness/strength of the method used, assesses its suitability and suggests new forms and areas of use. The problems are becoming increasingly complex and applications must be adapted to solve them. The adaptive filters have proven to be useful in these environments of multiple input/output, variant-time behaviors, and long and complex transfer functions effectively, but fundamentally they still have to evolve. This book is a demonstration of this and a small illustration of everything that is to come.

MIMO SYSTEMS, THEORY ANS APPLICATIONS: Hossein Khaleghi Bizaki
In recent years, it was realized that the MIMO communication systems seems to be inevitable in accelerated evolution of high data rates applications due to their potential to dramatically increase the spectral efficiency and simultaneously sending individual information to the corresponding users in wireless systems. This book, intends to provide highlights of the current research topics in the field of MIMO system, to offer a snapshot of the recent advances and major issues faced today by the researchers in the MIMO related areas. The book is written by specialists working in universities and research centers all over the world to cover the fundamental principles and main advanced topics on high data rates wireless communications systems over MIMO channels. Moreover, the book has the advantage of providing a collection of applications that are completely independent and self-contained; thus, the interested reader can choose any chapter and skip to another without losing continuity.
DIGITAL FILTERS: Fausto Pedro García Márquez
The new technology advances provide that a great number of system signals can be easily measured with a low cost. The main problem is that usually only a fraction of the signal is useful for different purposes, for example maintenance, DVD-recorders, computers, electric/electronic circuits, econometric, optimization, etc. Digital filters are the most versatile, practical and effective methods for extracting the information necessary from the signal. They can be dynamic, so they can be automatically or manually adjusted to the external and internal conditions. Presented in this book are the most advanced digital filters including different case studies and the most relevant literature.

ANALISIS DE SISTEMAS LINEALES: Ricardo Rojas, Mario Salgado, Juan Yuz

INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL, PROCESS CONTROL FUNDAMENTALS: PAControl
Control in process industries refers to the regulation of all aspects of the process. Precise control of level, temperature, pressure and flow is important in many process applications. This module introduces you to control in process industries, explains why control is important, and identifies different ways in which precise control is ensured.
The following five sections are included in this module:
- The importance of process control
- Control theory basics
- Components of control loops and ISA symbology
- Controller algorithms and tuning
- Process control systems
As you proceed through the module, answer the questions in the activities column on the right side of each page. Also, note the application boxes (double-bordered boxes) located throughout the module. Application boxes provide key information about how you may use your baseline knowledge in the field. When you see the
workbook exercise graphic at the bottom of a page, go to the workbook to complete the designated exercise before moving on in the module. Workbook exercises help you measure your progress toward meeting each section’s learning objectives.

PROGRAMMABLE CONTROLLERS, THEORY AND IMPLEMENTATION: L.A. Bryan, E.A. Bryan
Since the first edition of this book in 1988, the capabilities of programmable logic controllers have grown by leaps and bounds. Likewise, the applications f PLCs have grown with them. In fact, in today’s increasingly computercontrolled environment, it is almost impossible to find a technical industry that does not use programmable controllers in one form or another. To respond to these phenomenal changes, we introduce the second edition of Programmable Controllers: Theory and Implementation.

ADAPTIVE CONTROL STABILITY CONVERGENCE AND ROBUSTNESS: Shankar Sastry
This volume surveys the major results and techniques of analysis in the field of adaptive control. Focusing on linear, continuous time, single-input, single-output systems, the authors offer a clear, conceptual presentation of adaptive methods, enabling a critical evaluation of these techniques and suggesting avenues of further development. 1989 edition. DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING USING MATLAB: Vinay K. Ingle, John G. Proakis
This book does exactly what it purports to do - it teaches the reader how to perform signal processing tasks using Matlab. It starts out with signals and systems and moves on to the DTFT, the Z Transform, the DFT, digital filter structures including both IIR and FIR design, and finally covers some advanced topics in adaptive signal processing and communications.
It even contains full-blown projects using Matlab on adaptive channel equalization, binary spread spectrum communications, and system identification. The reader should use another text such as Oppenheim's "Discrete Time Signal Processing" to get the theory, and come to this book on how to implement that theory in Matlab. The oitne drawback is that the book is older, so it is using Matlab 5. Also, another reviewer mentioned that much of the book is inaccessible to users who do not have the rather expensive signal processing toolkit at their disposal. Fortunately, thanks to the open source movement, this last problem has been solved. Octave, now on SourceForge, an open source code repository, has many of the matlab functions available for free that you need to do signal processing.
